description This report presents the plastic injection mold creation process based on 3D computer models of heart valve mold. Plastic injection molding would present a cheaper alternative to rapid prototyping technologies adopted at the moment in the fabrication of heart valve molds. The SPAC valve mold (size 25) and the pulmonary conduit mold (Size 13) were used in this project. Of which, the SPAC valve mold (bottom) went through the entire mold fabrication process from designing to machining. The finished mold presents three defects: rigid fitting of the ejection part and the core insert; 0.8mm offset of the core insert which prevents proper closure of the mold; and indentions on the curve surfaces due to vibration suffered by the long neck cutter with thin cutting diameter.
