description Environmental sustainability and energy efficiency are gaining increasingly global focus and driving significant changes across different sectors including healthcare industries. This dissertation "Exploring Environmental Sustainability and Energy Efficiency in Healthcare Facilities," aims to investigate the strategies and best practices that healthcare organizations can adopt to enhance energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and productivity while delivering quality service to end users. My research will delve into how resource-intensive hospital campus reduce energy and water consumption under stringent regulatory requirements. Local healthcare institutions consume large amounts of energy and water on daily basis. On the other hand, it generates considerable amount of waste as compared to other types of buildings. Thus, healthcare institutions considered to be a large contributor to environmental degradation. The study explores into the integration of technology adoption, building design and sustainable operation practices in healthcare facilities. The key area focus includes BCA Green Mark adoption, Sustainable energy efficient technology and promotion of waste reduction and recycling initiative. The selected methodology for research is a mixed-method approach combing both qualitative and qualitative date collection techniques. Successful implementation case studies in healthcare institutions are analyzed to identify applicable best practices and some potential challenges for adoption. Surveys and interviews were conducted with respective facility managers and sustainability specialists to understand their insights to provide effectiveness of the best practices adopted in their campus. ii Findings from literature reviews and surveys indicates that investment in sustainability and energy efficiency not only offers the environment benefits but also provides numerous social and economic benefits such as cost saving. The cost saved could be redirected to other critical area such operation spending and therefore reduce the cost for patient care. Other benefits such as improvement on indoor environment quality help to enhance patient experience and recovery rate as well as staff well-being. The search show that sustainability requires stakeholders’ participation and engagement. Certain implementation requires top-down approach with senior management support or even regulatory enforcement. Inclusion, the dissertation underlines the critical needs for healthcare institutions to adopt environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. The adoption of sustainable operation requires a complex and comprehensive approach which includes technology, innovation, user behavioral changes as well as management and policy support. The recommendation provides a guideline for relevant parties such as healthcare facilities manager to achieve a more sustainable system which is cost effective and being environmentally responsible. Keywords: environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, healthcare facilities, green building standards, renewable energy, waste reduction, sustainable practices, healthcare management.
