Description
Summary:The aim of this report is to study the performance of Mesh Networks over IEEE Standard 802.16 Medium Access Control (MAC) Layer. IEEE Standard 802.16 is a Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN) technology that can connect different IEEE 802.11 networks. Mesh networks consist of static nodes communicating with each other over wireless links. The static nodes are essentially wireless routers. Such networks can be used, for example to provide a cost effective alternative to a wire line Internet access network. As opposed to the nodes in mobile ad hoc networks, the nodes in mesh networks are not energy constrained and node mobility is not a concern in protocol scalability. Performance study for WiMAX mesh networks can be done by studying the effect of scheduling and routing. This thesis covers the performance study of centralized scheduling in WiMAX mesh networks. It is shown that end to end delay latency and scheduling validity can be improved by improving the scheduling algorithm.
