description This project was developed toward supply chain scenario. With the size is growing overtime, the management of merchandises and logistics in a supply chain requires new approaches with break through in technology. This project allows people in every stage to query position of merchandises and vehicles at any time instant and view them on a map, hence enhance visibility, create much higher flexibility in planning the business, reduce risk and increase management efficiency. This project used Global Positioning System (GPS) to get the data on position of the vehicle. In our scenario, each vehicle is equipped with a GPS receiver and a device which has communication capability (such as hand phone, laptop or hand-held device). Software will interface them together and transmit data to a central server. A program at the server side will perform inserting into database so that applications from various functions can access. This project included 3 applications, which were developed specifically for 3 popular types of devices and connection with GPS receiver. The first application is for constrained-resources device such as hand phone, interfacing with Bluetooth GPS receiver. It is developed by Java Micro Edition. The second application is for richer-resources device like laptop or hand-held device connecting with Bluetooth GPS receiver. Finally, the last application used Serial Port to connect with a built-in GPS receiver. The second and third application is developed by Java Standard Edition.
