description With the rising demand of global, compact and feature-rich mobile phones, antenna designers have to come out with an antenna design that is small in size and able to cover multi-bands without compromising the performance of the mobile phone. There are many types of mobile phone antenna such as the dipole, monopole, whip and helical antenna but the most commonly used antenna today is known as Planar Inverted-F Antenna (PIFA). The antenna performance is affected by many parameters and through these parameters; a characterization of PIFA is done by using SEMCAD X simulation software to demonstrate the effect of it. An actual fixture will be mould out based on the simulation design to verify the result and new antenna concept design which is adding a capacitive coupling patch will further enhance the bandwidth of the antenna. Test and measurements are conducted in AIG Anechoic Chambers to test for Total Radiated Power (TRP), Total Isotropic Sensitivity (TIS) as well as Efficiency. Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and Hearing Aid Capabilities (HAC) specifications will be tested for Federal Communications Commission Ruling (FCC) and projects involved in the period of my Industrial Attachment at Motorola will be briefly explained.
