Summary:In Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) overlay systems, the cross-interference between wideband CDMA users and narrowband users can be substantially reduced by using filtered spreading sequences as replacements of binary PN sequences. The reduction is obtained at the expense of the degradation of multiple access capability of the CDMA users. The degradation gets even more serious for uplink receivers when the near-far problem arises. The adaptive detector introduced by Miller [13], proved to be effective for the near-far problem, is also applied here for the DS-CDMA overlay systems.
