description In this research, various vital issues for the development of a computer-aided process planning system for the automatic generation of process plans are addressed. The diversity of electronic products, scarcity of human expertise, and inconsistency among manually generated process plans increase the necessity of developing a CAPP system to select the various machines and processes for printed circuit board assembly. The electronic domain, being highly dynamic, makes it difficult to model during developmental work. The research establishes the application of the object-oriented paradigm to model this domain. The manual process planning activity is an experience-oriented task in nature. The application of expert system techniques to capture a human planner's experience as rules was achieved and has been organized, described, and represented in this research. The knowledge includes both Through-Hole and Surface Mount technology of PCBA. The integration between Computer-Aided Design, CAPP, and Computer-Aided Manufacture is accomplished in this research to realize a computer integrated manufacturing environment.
