Summary: | The development of new materials has been driven by the increasing demands of the aerospace and automotive industries for high performance materials. One material which has demonstrated superior mechanical properties is silicon carbide reinforced aluminium lithium. This metal matrix composite has been found to possess high stiffness to weight ratios and wear resistance. The quantity of reinforcements incorporated in the matrix can also be varied to produce a range of properties tailored for the application. |
