Summary: | Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs)are gaining popularity in industrial applications because of their improved properties over those alloys that are not reinforced. Silicon carbide (SiC)particles are often used as the reinforcement particles. However, because of the high hardness of SiC, machining cost can be high due to excessive tool wear. This project undertakes to investigate the machinability of as-cast and heat-treated MMC using polycrystalline and single crystalline cutting tools. |
