description Reading programmes have a direct link with children’s literacy and hence several countries have been embarking such programmes from time to time. However, such programmes need check and balance, failing which the effort will become futile. This study was conducted to evaluate the children reading programme, designed to promote reading and interest on books. Data was gathered through a group interview with ten children. Topics such as: Reading Enjoyment, Reading Rewards and Incentives, Reading Habits, Reading Partners, Reading Choices and Access to Books, were discussed during the interview session. It was found that most children were very enthusiastic towards reading and reading programme. The main concerns of children who did not participate in the programme were lack of time and interest in programme activities. The findings also revealed that children were not very keen with the idea of writing reviews. They were not comfortable with the physical quality of popular titles as they found scribblings and ripped pages in the book. However, it was encouraging to note that children in general had very positive attitude towards access to books. Collectively, this study brings out some facts about the reading programme.
