description | The Internet, best described as a "network of networks", has been hailed as the electronic superhighway of world-wide information and Communications structure. It has enjoyed widespread popularity because of its ease of use. However the Internet, including the World Wide Web sites has no quality control. Health-related sites are no exception. Web evaluation techniques are just beginning to be developed. Although there have been attempts to evaluate the World Wide Web sites, these show varying degrees of comprehensiveness. It is especially important to evaluate health-related sites, as any errors or inaccuracies in the information disseminated may result in potentially harmful and serious consequences. |
