Description
Summary:The development of plastic injection moulding flourished after World War one, when people needed parts to be produced in a high volume, through an economical and highly repeatable methodology. Throughout time, countless methods have been brainstormed and many technical minds sought to meet the demand to reduce moulding cost. However until today, there is no fixed templates for choosing the right method for the right job as there are too many points of consideration for every different custom-made component. This project will explore the fundamentals of injection moulding and it’s association with cost which are mainly material and process of fabricating plastic injection mould and thereafter the plastic injection components produced by the mould. It covers one of the widest scopes in details such as mould design considerations, mould layout and sizing, different methods of mould machining, factors related to cost of machining for each method, plastic injection processing, the processes involved from preparation until output of an injection moulded component and the theoretical calculation of factors involved in various processing cost. All these is summarized to a concise thesis for the reference of future minds who have an interest in this field.
