Summary: | From the perspective of the Travelling discourse, this thesis examines the portrayal of the United States, Hong Kong and Taiwan in Ping Lu’s proses. Through the analysis of the perspective she has chosen to narrate and comment in, she displays a sense of nostalgia towards Taiwan. Moreover, the depictions of the three places in her proses are clearly, her reflections in life. Through close reading of her works, this thesis examines the significance of her reminiscences, reflections and alleged future. Comparing her various proses reveal the contrast between Taiwan as her home versus the United States and Hong Kong as temporary places of stay. In spite of the memory of an embittered adolescence, Taiwan remains the place she felt an intense sense of belonging towards. Travelling has broadened her horizon in life, which made her grow and led the portrayal of “her” Taiwan to transcendence.
