India, known as a non-aligned country and a long time friend of the Soviet Union soon developed an inclination towards the emerging superpower United States (US) in the new world order. The mass media mirrors society and the country's ideology and a change in the country's foreign policy is also reflective in the Indian mass media coverage. Various factors like the liberalization of the Indian economy, the change in political ideology of both the countries, the American nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), role of US in the Kashmir conflict between India and Pakistan played a significant role in the ideological shift of the country.
