Rajaratnam School of International Studies DRNTU::Social sciences::Economic development 46 p. The objective of all development strategies is to transit from extensive to intensive economic development by enhancing industry development and living standards. Most authors have distinctly argued the successful development of the Asian NICs, with the essence of higher productivity, from the perspective of economics or politics whether they are neoliberals or neorealist. Neo-liberal doctrine views the marketplace operates in a mechanism that is free standing to efficiently reallocate resources. The market clearance takes place at equilibrium point, where the dynamics of demand and supply functions intersects (Friedman 1962, Stuart Mill 1848). This notion is assumed that the economy operates with a perfectly competitive market structure with a minimal role of state intervention. Furthermore, the assumption of perfect competition is also used to analyse economic competitiveness as the domestic economy intensify trade liberalization (Ohlin 1933, Stolper-Samuelson 1941). The neoliberals criticised that social networks are rent seeking coalitions in nature and ignore the positive economic outcomes that these networks can produce.
