Professional service firms are organizations which heavily rely on the use of knowledge to fulfil their customers' need. Best examples are consultancies, law firms, auditors and the like. For these companies successful knowledge management can be the decisive factor for their success. This paper discusses the multiple challenges which knowledge management poses, including the question which methods for knowledge sharing a PSF can and should be used to leverage the companies' existing knowledge. However, since knowledge management does not happen in a vacuum, a holistic approach to the topic is used, which helps us to understand how knowledge management is embedded in the organization and why it is important in today's business environment.
