Guangxi is one of the five autonomous regions in China. During the 10 Five Year Plan period, and the Central Government's "Go West Policy", the China-ASEAN free-trade zone, and the forming of the Pan-PRD and Pan-Beibu Gulf Rim economic cooperation zones, Guangxi experienced a drastic economic growth. Due to its strategic location and abundant natural resources, Guangxi has occupied a niche position at the heart of China-ASEAN economic circle. It effectively serves as a stepping-stone for Chinese entry into ASEAN countries and vice versa. Industrial upgrading and foreign trade are the two major engines behind the economic growth in Guangxi. In addition, to take advantage of its strategic location, the region aims to become a regional logistics centre and regional hub.
