Equal Channel Angular Extrusion (ECAE) is an efficient approach for the production of bulk nanostructured materials that involves plastic deformation to very high strain. The ECAE processed materials typically have very small grain sizes of less than 1 urn and exhibit improved mechanical properties. In this project, research on multi-pass ECAE process of a widely used aluminum 6061 alloy was conducted. This alloy was used because nearly two-thirds of all extrusion products are made from aluminum alloys and 90 percent of these are 6xxx series alloys. To study the effects of pre-processing heat treatment on grain refinement, two different heat treatment scenarios were conducted to obtain aged and un-aged samples.
