Chou Siaw Meng School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Bioengineering 122 p. Radiation therapy is the definitive treatment for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). In comparison with the conventional three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, inverse-optimised intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) has been demonstrated to improve tumour control rate in early stages non-metastatic NPC, as well as overall survival rate for advanced stages non-metastatic NPC. Single Volume (SV) and Match- Field (MF) techniques are two widely employed IMRT techniques for non-metastatic NPC. However, the clinical efficacy of both techniques as applied to specific NPC stages have yet to be investigated. This study aims to establish clinical guidelines for the indication and application of both IMRT techniques for the treatment of nonmetastatic NPC specific to the disease stages.
