In this dissertation, I will examine the sifting patterns of Sino-American relations during 1965 to 1967, and how both countries were affected by their perception of the other. I argue that China during that period was more concerned with realpolitik than with ideological dogma. That said, it does not mean that ideology was not important to the People's Republic of China (PRC). However, it was a veneer beneath which masks real Chinese concerns, especially those affecting its security and sovereignty.
