Description
Summary:With the advancement in technology that has made possible the integration of Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver capability into mobile phones, it can be observed that there is a growing trend in Location Based Services (LBS) also being developed in conjunction with the usage of GPS application. Hence, application services such as itinerary planner, location of user and emergency assistance can be developed together with the aid of GPS. The itinerary planner has a realizable application to plan the itineraries in relation to the user’s location and his preference. Location of user and emergency assistance applications will basically locate the user’s location and provides the nearest landmark information and hospital information respectively. The usage of Google’s static map and its controls such as zooming or changing of the different map types can also be developed and enhanced alongside the other services as mentioned above. Location Based Services, LBS relies heavily on the usage of locating the user. Currently, there are a few detection methods, such as Cell-ID detection, WiFi detection, Assisted GPS, etc., with each methods having its pros and cons to be deeply considered. For example, the used of GPS can be considered the most accurate in terms of locating the user. Unfortunately it has a constraint in that it requires the user to have a clear line of sight with the satellites. Hence, it is mandatory for the need to compare on the different detection methods suitability that will be relevant for the functions to be developed.
