description Everyone has the bittersweet experience of studying and sitting for the exams, or has a school-going child, or has employed school graduates. Education is a topic that touches the lives of so many people from different walks of life. As U.S. President Barack Obama said, education is the key to a country’s future. In today's knowledge economy, it is not enough to be a walking memory bank, as we already have the technology to store all the data we need. One has to have the ability to think on his feet and consider various ways to solve a particular problem. Thus, schools across the region, such as in Singapore, China, Japan and South Korea, are increasingly trying to move away from rote learning and towards developing critical thinking among students. Our project sought to investigate what these schools are doing to prepare future generations for the global knowledge economy, the challenges they face and the potential implications. As students ourselves, we are interested in how the education sector is shaping up to accommodate different ideas.
