description The Chinese has a rich history of tradition and culture, which I have drawn many inspirations from in this project. I find this project began as an important journey for myself in understanding my own identity, as well as finding a point of reconciliation in today’s context in which I am referring to as modern and contemporary. I am looking to project this notion as a product encompassing the values and meaning that it could share with people from the same background or even crossing cultural boundaries, and in the meantime reinforcing a stronger sense of identity that is contemporarily Chinese. The play of aesthetics, geometry and balance has been the key in my design manifesto, drawing inspiration from Chinese characters, daily objects or gesture. This thesis looks into the various elements in Chinese culture, which deem interesting to me personally, such as the character for happiness, the balancing acts carried out while fishing, traditional Chinese lanterns or the play of “Chinese puzzles” etc.. The aim of this project lies in the integration and translations of such elements into contemporary design, hence establishing an unique “mixed” identity. The name for this light is derived from the meaning of fullness, or happiness. It is a carrier of different identities and serves as the vector for amplifying the basic elements of interest that I have picked out. Metaphorcial, in order to accept and welcome the new, you have to be full and comfortable or simply, content with your own identity.
