Summary:Bromate is a suspected carcinogen that endangers human health. It is becoming increasingly common in drinking water due to the disinfection process involving ozonation. Hybrid system of coagulation and dead-end nanofiltration was investigated for the removals of bromide and bromate in the presence of humic acid. Permeate flux decline and membrane resistances were studied using membrane fouling index (MFI) equation. Through the integration of coagulation with nanofiltration, it is expected to improve permeate flux and reduce fouling. In our study, the application of ferrous sulphate as coagulant and NF-90 membranes was investigated. Based on our findings, bromate removal was complete and humic acid removal efficiency was improved. However, permeate flux decline was more severe than anticipated.
