Polyamide nanocomposite preparation by blending polyamide solution with nanoclay slurry

Description
Summary:Polyamide 6 nanocomposites and amorphous polyamide nanocomposites based on poly(hexamethylene isophthalamide) were prepared by solution intercalation with pristine sodium montmorillonite. The solvents used were 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE) and 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) for polyamide 6 and amorphous polyamide respectively. The solvents were then removed from the nanocomposites by solvent casting. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and polarized optical microscopy (POM) were used to characterize the dispersion of nanoclay in the nanocomposites.
