Summary: | Social networking sites (SNSs) are fast increasing in number of users especially among adolescents. Facebook, in particular, has emerged the top SNS, and recent research has been interested in personality traits influencing its use. In this study, we hypothesized that narcissism could predict (1) a higher frequency of updating Facebook status, (2) having more Facebook friends, (3) having more Facebook photos, (4) higher self-ratings of Facebook profile pictures, over and above extraversion. Three hundred and sixty students from two secondary schools in Singapore participated in the study, of which 275 had Facebook accounts. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses found that narcissism could only predict (1) and (4) over and above extraversion but not for (2) and (3).
