description Shock test machine has been used for years to test electronic equipments of various devices. The importance of shock test machine increases as more instruments were invented to work in a harsh environment such as military and aeronautical instruments. A shock testing is required to test the susceptibility of these instruments. To imitate the harsh environment, a high acceleration generating shock test machine is required, possibly a machine which can generate at least 20,000 g acceleration. However, the commercially available high impact shock test machine is not available in Singapore and the cost is high. The initial aim of this project is to design a shock test machine which can produce acceleration level of 20,000 g. The aim is then altered to designing a shock test machine which is able to achieve acceleration level as high as possible. The design should incorporate simplicity of the mechanism and ability to be operated inside a closed space (example: laboratory). A selected design of a shock test machine is finalized and the drawings are created using SolidWorks. Simulations to test the machine design are performed using 2D Working Model and the results are analyzed. The calculation and simulation using ANSYS for stress analysis have been completed. However, the final design of the shock test machine is only able to produce a maximum of 1,000 g. Other possible ways to increase the acceleration level using the current design are considered. Due to time constraints, alternative designs are not further assessed. A better way to increase the acceleration using the current design or a new shock test machine design is crucial to achieve higher acceleration level.
