| description | This thesis deals with code-switching between English and Chinese in Singapore Chinese community. The study is based on five-hour recording data which was collected by some university students from Chinese department, National Institute of Education. A quantitative analysis of inter-sentence code-switching and intrasentence code-switching is conducted. Then within Mark Sebba's (1998) framework, three strategies (harmonization, neutralization and compromise)are discussed to analyse intra-sentence code-switching. Further some typical structures are generalized under these three strategies. In the last chapter, the relationship between codeswitching and language contact is explored roughly. |
