Being in sync with nature, the residents of this utopia lead a carefree and simple life. With imagination, Tao Yuanming invited readers to explore this utopia through two of his writings, “An Account of the Peach Blossom Spring” (Tao Hua Yuan Ji) and “A Poem about the Peach Blossom Spring” (Tao Hua Yuan Shi). Even though “Tao Hua Yuan Ji” and “Tao Hua Yuan Shi” belongs to two different genres, one being an account and the other a poem, they explore the same content, the story of “Peach Blossom Spring”. Besides being different in the word count and its form, the two writings differ much in the presentation of its contents; namely, the distribution and proportion of its contents, the order of narration, main themes, language use and rhetoric. Readers receive contrasting messages from the texts as a result of these differences. |
