description This report described the researches, developments and implementations performed in the project to enhance the performance of a digital map system based on Scalable Vector Graphics display standard, which was developed by previous student. For this project, the main objective is to extend the map system from PC based web browsers to embedded platforms, to refine its 3D display mode, and to resolve the overlapping display error problems when viewing the map in 3D projection mode. The report begins with the discussion of the standard 2D SVG features, follows by mathematics algorithms used in perspective projection. SVG based 3D objects are defined by arranging 2D polygon surfaces in the proper order such that the surfaces further to the center of projection (COP) are obscured by the surfaces closer to the COP, which is critical in correct display after perspective projection.
