description The conventional methods of producing electricity have resulted in climate changes because of the pollutants that come along with it. Researchers from all around the world are now looking at the possible methods to produce energy. Solar energy, being in abundance and clean is found to be very suitable. The project aims to utilize EtaOpt that is an object oriented program based on Wolfram Research Mathematica to carry out simulations on the single junction, dual junction, triple junction and quadruple junction cell. EtaOpt is based on the detailed balance limit model that only takes into account of the radiative recombination as the only loss mechanism in any solar cell junction. This is the only fundamental limiting process. Photons with energy greater than the energy bandgap of the solar cell will be absorbed and all else will be transmitted.
