description | With the rapid increase in penetration of wind power in the power system, it becomes necessary to require wind farms to behave as much as possible as conventional power plants to support the network voltage and frequency not only during steady-state conditions but also during grid disturbances. These disturbances may cause transient instability. As the disturbances can occur in a very short time leaving no time for operator intervention to mitigate problems, hence it is essential to improve transient stability. Hence transient stability became a basic and important consideration in power system design and operation.
This dissertation compares the performance of the three different kinds of shunt FACTs device, namely the STATCOM, SVC and the TCBR in transient stability enhancement after a three phase fault. The controllers of the devices were designed based on the demo DFIG wind power system in the Simulink program. |
