description Chemical oxygen demand (COD) is a measure of the capacity of water to consume oxygen during the decomposition of organic matter and the oxidation of inorganic chemicals. It is considered to be one of the most important parameters in wastewater treatment process. However, measurement of COD suffers from the drawbacks of time consuming and limitation to the range of the concentration of the COD value of samples. The objective of this project is to develop a novel COD sensor which provides fast and accurate measurement of COD value for wide application range. So far a lot of work has been done by post and undergraduate students on this project, including working principle development, mechanical system design, automation system design (hardware & software), and validation tests. Yet the embedded system of the sensor needs to be improved to support more functions. This report serves as a summary of works done to improve the embedded system of new sensor. The main effort of the author is spent on software design of the embedded system. During the author‟s final year project, different function modules are modified or developed to improve the performance of the system developed. The valuable knowledge and experience gained through this project is enormous and memorable.
