Description
Summary:The rising importance of bioinformatics in the global biomedical community prompts the impetus to introduce this discipline to secondary and post-secondary school students. The two local universities in Singapore are now offering formal courses in Bioinformatics to address the growing demand for individuals trained in bioinformatics. Currently, the secondary school syllabus in Singapore does not provide adequate bioinformatics exposure to students. In view of the current situation, it would be beneficial for educators to try to expose secondary school students to the principles of bioinformatics and to apply the concepts to real life scenarios in the scientific world. Thus the aim of this project was to develop a bioinformatics website and several online tools to assist secondary and post-secondary school students in learning bioinformatics. The online tools developed in this project include a BLAST video tutorial along with several tutorial worksheets.
