description | Personal music players, including smartphones with music playing capabilities, have become increasingly prevalent among children, adolescents, and adults alike. Recent studies have linked the use of these music players to the increase in noise-induced hearing loss among their users. The noise-induced hearing loss is caused by loud sound/noise exposure that regularly exceeds the safe noise dosage (safe noise exposure durations). Hearing loss, even a mild one, causes inconvenience to the affected children and adolescents in school and sets a precedent for hearing aids in later life. It is imperative that the music player user is aware of his/her noise exposure to prevent him/her from exceeding the safe noise dosage. |
