Summary: | Buffer management is an important issue that affects the loss recovery performance, and can possibly ease the congested upstream links, by providing locally cached packets and not adding additional traffic to the sender. The original RAM protocol does not address this issue. There is also very little previous work on it. This project studies the buffer’s packet-dropping policy and management issues for reliable multicast local recovery using active resources. A new buffer management scheme, Congestion-Aware Active Buffering (CAAB), is proposed and studied.
