description This project is to design a virtual tool to help simulating the touching feedback of human abdomen in surgical simulation system. This Virtual Palpation Tool can help to train interns to learn how to palpate abdomen and feel the organs beneath the skin surface. During this project, the haptic devices were used to simulate the force feedback when the virtual hands touch on the virtual skin in the 3D virtual space. By using openGL and openHaptic Toolkit, the 3D virtual space could be able to interact with the haptic device which acted as the virtual hands. By defining a proper formula to generate the force feedback, user could feel like touching the real skin and view the skin deformation when touching or moving on the skin, and by performing palpation, user could feel the doubtful organs in abdomen area like liver and spleen.
