description This paper seeks to review a literature on art therapy. The scope of the literature ranges from year 2001 to 2012. There is a brief introduction of theories of what exactly makes art therapy work, and a summary of the methodology debate. The author will review the status of art therapy in different focal groups namely (1) schizophrenia help groups, (2) among those sexually abused, (3) among patients diagnosed with cancers, (4) among prisoners, and (5) among the elderly. The approach of this part of the review is not limited geographically. The author then explores the status of art therapy in Singapore, by looking at articles, web-pages, and unpublished theses, done by Singaporeans about art therapy in Singapore.
