Ports are the hubs where vessels call at to load and discharge cargo. Therefore, ports play a
vital role in implementing regulations for vessels. In recent years, there had been intense
discussions concerning emission levels of ports. Port regulators and operators have to work
together, in order to have greener and more efficient ports, therefore ensuring sustainability of
the maritime industry.In the international maritime industry, there are no specific rules and regulations governing
emissions from ports. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has provided
guidelines for ports. In recent years, more regulations and guidelines are making their way to
ports around in the world through international conferences, regional co- operations and
national initiatives. |
