description Without the knowledge of the future message flow, the problem of finding energy efficient routes that maximize the network lifetime is termed as the online energy aware routing in wireless networks. To maximize the network lifetime, the paths in which message flows are chosen in such a way that the energy depleted nodes are avoided, at the same time, the total energy consumed along the path is minimized. The authors of the journal titled Online Energy Aware Routing in Wireless Networks have proposed a two phased energy aware routing strategy known as the Shortest Widest Path (SWP) to balance the two objectives.
