| Summary: | In this essay, I propose a new term, ‘memogram’, which is to be used as a narrative marker that both refers to, and represents a moment of significance that is seared into a fictional character’s memory. As Alan Palmer, in his book, Fictional Minds, points out,“(narrative) is in essence the presentation of fictional mental functioning” (177). Hence, by noting how memograms operate within a fictional narrative, we would be able to have an insight into the cognitive mental functionings of a fictional character, and in turn, examine how the memogram may shape the identity of the same character who remembers a particular moment.
