Summary: | 本文主要通过新尧湾的个案研究,提出“文化环保”的概念,并分析其调动历史记忆、凝聚“场所精神”的力量。本文所提出的文化环保,旨在探索全球化的脉络下的地方角色,即“场所精神”与社区重构的关系。此外,本文也藉由“文化环保”中的“在地史观”与“共生理念”的阐述,期许人们能够通过地方建立身份认同,进而激发各界由衷投入“在地智慧”的保育事业。
第一章首先勾勒砂拉越学的脉络,梳理战后砂拉越本土化的学术趋势,从中探究文化环保在地方知识生产过程中如何提供一个转变的契机。第二章主要从砂拉越的政治与社会发展脉络,初步探索文化环保运动的促成环境以及在地力量的崛起。
第三、四和五章是本研究的重点所在。第三章主要从乡土意象、文学描述与宗教记忆,进而展现的“地方芭蕾”,描绘出一幅文化历史图像,建构地方话语。第四章经过新尧湾案例专论的探赜,采取文化环保与建筑学理论的“场所精神”作为解释的模式,并分析了新尧湾各个场所精神的构成元素及旧有空间植入新模式后的变化。第五章通过家乡守护计划的实际操作,讨论文化的“地域性”如何藉由努力得到强化并影响小镇的发展。
本研究的最终旨趣,乃在揭示适用于同类历史小镇的保育方法,供各界参照引用,从中提炼出一种新的看待地方知识建构,为文化环保事业的发展打造丰允的前景 。
The thesis proposes a new term namely “cultural recycling” upon case study of Siniawan. Meanwhile, it investigates how the practice of recycling culture mobilizes historical memory and converges spirit of the place. The exploration of the phenomenon of “cultural recycling” allows for more understanding on the role and reformation of local community in the era of globalization. With elaboration of “local historical perpectives” and “symbiosis”, the research also aims to promote reconstruction of self-identity in spatiall terms and attempts to encourage more involvements in cultural conservation.
Chapter one begins by delineates the development of Sarawak Studies while tracking the trends of Sarawak local academic discourse throughout the years after the Second World War. In addition, the chapter seeks to discover how “cultural recycling” triggers the transformation of the structure of Sarawak Studies in the process of local knowledge production. Chapter two focuses on the social and political environment of Sarawak which favors the growth of “cultural recycling” practice and the raising of local communities.
Chapter three, four and five contain the research emphasis of this study. Chapter three constructs the historical and cultural image of Siniawan and its “place ballet” through interpretation of rural image, literature description and religious memory. Chapter four applies the architectural theory, spirit of the place to serve as a mode of explanation, while explore its constituent elements in Siniawan and the changes bought to the former spaces in the town. Chapter five recorded the activities of Siniawan Heritage Project and how it affects the development of the town.
The ultimate purpose of the study is to reveal a conservation approach, which can be as well applied on the other similar town. Further more, it refines the existing perspective on local knowledge production.
