| Summary: | This paper seeks to study the use of Straits Times Online Mobile Print (STOMP) which utilizes citizen journalism for the enforcement of social etiquette in the public transport system among Singaporeans. Adopting from the works of Foucault, STOMP is critically examined with the concepts of governmentality and panopticism. The research aims to uncover the surveillant assemblage that supports the functioning of STOMP which acts as shaming platform and the effect of disciplinary gaze in coercing commuters to act according to the ethics of social etiquette in the public transport premises. By examining the surge in anxiety among commuters while being exposed to unidentifiable STOMPers in the public transport premises shed insights to the effect of surveillance produced with the introduction of STOMP. |
