Summary:Before starting on my final year project, I hope to achieve something different for my final year project short animated CG film, completely different from generic 3D realistic renders in Pixar and DreamWorks studios CG animated feature film. After my classes with Mr. Hans Bacher, I discovered that various custom filter plugins in Adobe Photoshop can really do magic and wonders with digital images. For instance, a 3D realistic rendered image could be transform into a non photorealistic rendering to make it look painterly. It was during my research period, I stumble upon a few stylize and visually impactful short animated film such as, the animated commercial advertisement of “Twinings gets your back to you” and the recently short animated film Oscar award winner “Paperman” by Disney. In these clips, I got to know and understand the new techniques of non photorealistic renderings, where the whole look of the film is produced in a traditional and painterly method; it mimics the visuals and look in concept art during the initial pre production stage. Hence, in this final year project, I wanted to experiment with the technique for my short film as I believe it may become a new idea and approach in creating a visually stylized animated film.
