Description
Summary:In recent years, there is a growing trend that young Chinese Singaporeans are having difficulties in associating with their cultural roots. It was being foreseen that dialects would soon die out after a few more generations. Though immense support was given to conservation of cultural practices, not much was done in the area of preserving oral traditions. Character traits that are common among older generations of Chinese Singaporeans shows how people perceived others from different dialect groups. This form of oral cultural traditions not only shows that each dialect group have their own uniqueness but also allow us to understand a dialect group intimately. Thus, this study aim to survey if there are character traits that are unique to people from the different dialect groups and hope that using the character traits as a catalyst to get people to start thinking about their Chinese ethnicity. The result of this research would produce a set of illustration each representing a different dialect group.
