Description
Summary:The purpose of this report is to explore engineering issues in underground rock excavation. To begin the discussion, backgrounds of rock mass character are introduced in the first chapter. In the second chapter, literatures of other authors on the engineering of underground rock excavation are summarized and their key approach visited. Subsequently, numerical analyses are done to evaluate different software packages based on different numerical methods as well as doing sensitivity analysis of two dimensional cavern shape and distance between the adjacent caverns. Effectiveness of rock reinforcement on rock mass has also been analyzed through finite element method of loading analysis. Throughout the report impact of the rock mass strength, cavern shapes, distance between adjacent caverns and rock reinforcement have on the stability of the underground rock excavation has been explored as well.
