description The economy is advancing fast ahead, leading to more oil and gas required for production and global needs. Due to the increasing demand, the offshore reservoirs are being developed in deeper and deeper water. To allow a better performance and longer operating life during deeper water operations, a new marine riser have to be introduced to the market. Currently, the conventional risers available for use consist of the steel catenary riser, flexible risers, top-tensioned risers and hybrid risers. In this report, a new marine riser will be proposed with an objective that is to achieve better riser performance than the existing risers available in the market, for riser drilling and production in deep water. The steel catenary riser, lazy S riser and steep wave riser are being selected for analysing and determining the critical riser points for design consideration. A linear wave and irregular wave are applied to the riser for analysis purpose. By using the software, Orcaflex, riser segments that experience the highest stress values in terms of bending moment and effective tension are examine and evaluated. After considering the advantages and disadvantages of the existing risers, the new riser is proposed. The new riser is simulated under the same environmental loadings and the results have proven that the new riser achieves a better riser performance.
