description Olfactory sensing or detection by smell is a powerful but relatively less developed area of remote sensing, compared to traditional electro-optical based sensors. Through an array of specifically calibrated commercial sensors, this capability can be realized in an integrated system. The system will capture and recognize the specific response and gas composition of the ambient and identity the type of human activities remotely. This can be achieved by building a library of response curves through experimentation and perform a curve matching with the ambient response. This involves the field of bio-chemistry and electronic system design and programming which is a potential area to develop remote sensing capability. A prototype is built by interfacing the ARUINO board with the TGS 2442 CO gas detector and the TGS 2201 CO, SO2 and NO2 gas detector to learn about the gas sensing principle and also to acquire the knowledge of calibrating such sensors. A temperature/humidity sensor is also added to compensate the change in ambient condition. This prototype will be used to analyse the specific response of various human activities such as internal engine combustion for developing the library of response curve.
