Through different mediums like radio, dramas and publications, “The Children’s Playhouse” propagated healthy values and nurtured a group of passionate members that eventually became teachers of the Arts and Culture. During the Cultural Revolution, communist ideologies seeped into “The Children’s Playhouse” and performances along the theme were staged. As with other groups of its era, she faded off the drama scene in 1976 after a group of dramatist were arrested under the Internal Security Act. Passionate members made a comeback in 1982 under the name “The Youth Players”, and were steered toward an entirely new direction. The paper seeks to analyse the characteristics and significance of “The Children’s Playhouse”, “The Youth Playhouse”, and “The Youth Players”. |
