MAC protocol design for WLAN to enhance IEEE 802.11

According to Gast (2002), the highest throughput that can be attained by using the DCF is 75% of the nominal bit rate. This project proposes enhancement solutions which aims to achieve at least a 20% increment of the total channel throughput. This project analyses the effect of three enhancements...

description According to Gast (2002), the highest throughput that can be attained by using the DCF is 75% of the nominal bit rate. This project proposes enhancement solutions which aims to achieve at least a 20% increment of the total channel throughput. This project analyses the effect of three enhancements of IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN. The enhancements are Data Transmission Time, Contention Window and Combined solution. The effects of the enhancements are evaluated in terms of total channel throughput. It is observed Data Transmission Time solution has a more consistent performance and lowest collision occurrence.
